VERA VANE was designed by Arketipo Design for the 5 Mimar 5 Breeze series. In English, “vane” refers to a small wing that directs the wind. Inside the block, there are thin wings that curve toward one another. These wings leave pointed, arch-shaped openings between them.

The blocks can be rotated to be arranged in different directions. Each change in direction causes the arches to meet at different angles, and the wall’s pattern is reconfigured. The slender wings divide the light into sharply defined shadows. The wall appears differently throughout the day depending on the sun’s position.

Measuring 20×20×10 cm, the VERA VANE can be used as a sunshade on building facades, as a windbreak on patios and in gardens, and as a translucent partition indoors. When blocks of different colors are arranged together, the pattern becomes even more vibrant. They are handmade from cement in our workshop in Istanbul.
